    Castles, Love & Shooting Stars

Published: Oct 7, 2016 · Modified: Jan 4, 2023 by dirndlkitchen · This post may contain affiliate links ·

August is the month when the love of my life and I exchanged vows in the most breathtaking and romantic German castle, nestled up on a steep hill in the vineyards, overlooking the Rhine river. It was an unforgettable day that had friends and family from 5 countries come together.

August is the month when my grandmother Sieghilde was born 77 years ago. She inspired me to plan our wedding in Germany, with the anticipation that she would remain healthy enough to attend physically. Sadly, we didn't get to give her a ride up the winding path to the castle in the castle's tractor, sadly she did not get to hold her loving husband's hand as they watched my dad and I descend the 700-year-old stone stair steps to the castle's rose garden,  and sadly I didn't get to look for her smiling face in the crowd as I promised Jason my forever. Instead, I know that she was there in spirit, watching over us, and making sure it was the perfect day.

August is the month of shooting stars, my summertime favorite. I imagine my grandmother looking down on us from above, sending us glittery strands of light as we danced the night away to Macarena and pop songs from the 90's.

    Hallo, I'm Sophie!

I am so happy that you are here at my German food and recipe blog named dirndl kitchen! Let's cook and bake authentic German recipes to help us feel closer to Germany!

I moved from Germany to the United States in 2009 and soon started to terribly miss the German food (okay, my family, too)! I still miss a nice weekend brunch with crusty Brötchen (rolls) and Teilchen (pastries), Döner Kebab and German cake and coffee time at 15 o'clock! So I decided to educate my fellow Germany-missing friends by writing about German food and traditions. I do so in a fun way with easy-to-follow recipes! I hope you stay a while and bookmark some recipes, so we can cook and bake together.

Mit viel Liebe (with much love)
